Sometimes they wake up and scratch.
When they wake up their body and their muscles become tense. They scratch to activate them
They do this to refresh themselves.
Maintaining Claw Health:
When a cat’s claws become very big and they feel discomfort, so they scratch their claws to prevent them from becoming oversized.
They also do this for their nail health. To keep them healthy and safe. Sometimes they sharpen their claws in this way because they use their claws to protect themselves from dangerous things.
Marking Territory:
Sometimes cats feel unsafe when they are in an unknown place or they are afraid of getting lost from their territory. In such situations they feel the need to mark their territory.
Cats have scent pads in their paws, which help them find their way home and navigate to their destination. They mark their territory by scratching and leaving a scent in that place.
This scent serves as a message to other cats that it is his territory.
When cats live in a particular place where they have marked their territory they feel safe and believe that no danger can catch them.
Relieving Stress or Anxiety:
Sometimes cats scratch when they are experiencing stress or anxiety because it helps them to alleviate those feelings.
As we mentioned earlier scratching helps them refresh their bodies and serves as a way to relieve stress and anxiety.
After scratching, cats often feel well and healthy. This behavior also helps maintain blood circulation.
It’s often seen that when we start playing with a cat, they suddenly stop playing and start scratching an object before resuming play. They do this because they first need to assess their body and tiredness, preparing themselves for playing.
Sometimes they scratch to signal that they are angry or unhappy and try to get your attention to communicate their problem.
